We pick up trash on the road a few times/year. The city gives us a few pick-up tools, but I bring my Gopher Deluxe with me. The Gopher is much better designed that the city's tools. The only downside is that one suction cup came off. I've written Ontel Corporation (the folks who make Gopher Deluxe) and asked them to send me a new one. We'll see if they do or not. But this is a great tool--just check the suction cups and the screws often to make sure they're seated and tight!Product Review: Great picker-upper

I bought this tool after breaking my back in a car accident. It was terrific for use in keeping me from needing to bend down. The rubber gripping cups allow small pieces of paper and even coins to be picked up easily. The only reason this didn't get 5 stars is that it really only works well for light objects. Tennis shoes are about the maximum weight it can reliably lift.Product Review: Great product. I'm kicking myself for giving it away.

I got one after a surgery.
It was invaluable for picking up things that were on the floor, or up high on a shelf.
Deluxe folding model, great for traveling.
Gopher has suction cups that are probably better than the miniature claw type grabber units sold in Walgreen's (in the cane/walker dept).
I gave my grabber to an elder family member and watched them pick up the smallest of pills that they had dropped on the floor.
So the gopher's suction cup design is great for picking up very small items.
Big lots previously carried a wanna-be gopher, with the movable trigger on the back (against the palm of your hand) vs the opposite setup on the gopher. Probably to avoid copyright infringement or such.
Big lot's version was only $3.99 and it was quite comparable.
For picking up small, lightweight items, it's great.
For picking up, or taking down items weighing over 5 lbs, I wouldn't risk it.
The ends are spring steel and with the rubber cups, you get a sort of "tensioned-grabbing" of the item.
Not a solid "clamping" like a wrench.
If an item weighs too much, it'll slip out of the grip of the rubber cups.
I think sales would be great for a bigger, heavier, "Industrial" version of this device. Something that could pick up like 15-20 lbs and which could maintain a fixed amount of tension on an item.
I have to give it 2 thumbs up, after seeing someone use mine to pick up pills that were the size of a "BB" (like used in BB guns).

I am pretty happy with this item. I use it to reach the top brances of a fig tree to either pull the branches down or grab a fig too high for me to reach. I did lose a suction cup recently as one of the branches was just too big. I have had it for 3 years though and used it once a year during the months of August and Sept.
Its a very light weight tool. I suggest a new version in a more heavy duty form be created by the manufacturer for outdoor use. Thanks
