Product Reviews of Ancient Secrets Ceramic Nasal Cleansing Pot, 1 Neti PotProduct Review: Effective Summary: 4 Stars
I don't suffer from sinus problems, but my husband and his mother do and they both like this product. My mom-in-law uses it with the NeilMed pre-mixed sinus packets with great results.
Product Review: Excellent Neti Pot Summary: 5 Stars
This neti pot looks and feels like a quality product. I would recommend getting this rather than one of the plastic neti pots unless you need one that's really lightweight for travel purposes. I really like the size and shape. If you haven't tried a neti pot, don't knock it till you try it and give it a shot. :) It's a bit weird the first few times you try it but... Ok it's VERY weird! :) But you'll get used to it quickly and it's amazing how much more freely you can breathe after using it.
Product Review: Excellent! Summary: 5 Stars
I've suffered from sinus infections ever since I had an abscessed upper tooth (since removed) a few years ago. The worst part was the smell of decay I could smell coming out of my nose, and for years my remedy was anti-biotics. I had always wished that I could climb up my own sinus and spray the cavity with anti-biotic solution or something like that so I wouldn't have to subject my whole body to anti-biotics.
One day I saw a you-tube link to neti pot but I thought I'd never try it because I was grossed out with the thought of water coming out my nose and remembering how painful getting water up my nose was while swimming. But having got a sinus infection (again) this week, I resolved to try it.
There are many types of neti-pots for sale but I decided to get this one because it came with a box and instructions and I wanted printed instructions, not just what someone said on you-tube.
This neti-pot is very nice. The ceramic is very pretty and wonderfully finished and I like the design a lot. I followed the instructions to the letter and was able to get water to come out my other nostril the first try. I didn't choke, it didn't feel strange and it felt very natural.
I used Brita filtered potable water (good idea especially for cities that don't have good water) and microwaved it for 20 seconds to make the salt dissolve easier and made sure that it was just lukewarm (not too cold or hot). I used 1/4 teaspoon non-iodized salt with 1 cup of water. Some instructions say not to use sea-salt as that has a lot of impurities in it, including I suppose dead plankton.
I am assuming that salt is used because salt can kill bacteria by osmosis. Before Listerine, people used to use salt water to disinfect their mouths. I suppose if I were adventurous I could add more salt to increase it's bactericidal properties, but I'm not sure I want to try that yet. 1/4 teaspoon is very mild if you taste it a little. To prevent water from going into your mouth the back way, just say the word K. That causes the back of your tongue to close up the back of your mouth.
As far as results go, I've only used it for a few days so I'm not sure what it's long term results would be. But the first time I used it a lot of gunk did come out my nose, including dried blood and nasal mucus (snot) from the side that was infected. I know now not to pour the water into that side, since that would flush the infection to the side that was clean, so you don't need to always do both sides. On the second night when I did it, my nose was clogged and I think the water might have gone up the Eustachian tube and into my tear duct as my eye got red. So my advice is not to force the water through using your breath and not to use it when your nose is clogged, the water won't unclog it.
But on the first and third nights when I did it my nose and sinus felt wonderfully clean. All the gunky stuff was flushed out and I felt a lot better breathing in and out. I will definitely continue to use it and will recommend it to family and friends who have allergies.
Update: I've been using the neti-pot for months now. It really works as advertised. Every time I think I'm coming up with a cold I flush my sinuses to clear it out. I've also discovered that when I get sick and I use the neti pot, my runny nose stops running. Not sure why, it could be that the salt dries the sinus lining up. I'm very satisfied with it. In fact, I've bought a bunch for families and friends. One of them uses it for allergies, just to clean out any pollen. By the way, this is not supposed to be a substitute for a doctor, just a device for cleaning out your sinuses.
Product Review: Fine & Dandy Neti Pot Summary: 4 Stars
This is the first neti pot I have owned. I have sinus issues which have increased with my current pregnancy; because I am pregnant, I am trying not to take any medicine. I bought this pot after painstakingly poring over reviews on Amazon, and was not disappointed. It is a well-made, sturdy pot which even makes a nice bathroom decoration. :) I read some of poor reviews, and it seems that those people are reviewing the process of nasal irrigation, not this product. I wanted an affordable ceramic neti pot (not plastic) and this one is just fine. The process does take a little getting used to (my husband tried it and is not a fan) but, it has helped me when I get stuffy and don't want to take medicine.
Product Review: Glad I purchased! Summary: 5 Stars
I have sleep apnea and CPAP therapy seems to give me sinus congestion. Using this really helps keep things clear. Seems to be very durable and it's dishwasher safe. Much better than plastic!
