I have tried benedryl (to the point to where my sinuses are completely dry all the time)& melatonin (which I take more than what the bottle says, and still doesn't work--30mg). I really didn't want to get a prescription sleep med, as they have a tendency to be addictive. I tried the Alteril, and I must say it does the job. Just make sure you take it about an hour or two before you go to bed. It may not work for some people, because of their body chemistry and tolerance, but it has helped me tremendously.Product Review: It works for me.

I have been pleasantly surprised. This product works very well for me. I am able to fall asleep easily (I go to bed an hour or so after taking 2 tablets) and, if I awaken during the night, I'm able to fall back to sleep pretty quickly.
We who don't sleep easily must, of course, follow a good sleep hygiene protocol. Especially not eating heavily in the evening, turning off electronics, lowering the lighting, warm bath or shower, etc.

Not only do you get a wonderful, restful night's sleep, but you also wake up refreshed and energized. One tablet is usually enough, but you can take two if needed. If you do take two you may experience a little grogginess when you first wake up that passes very quickly like in ten minutes. It must have a positive effect on your serotonin levels hence the nice top-of-the-morning-to-you feeling. All my life, I slept like a baby, until menopause struck. For the past ten years, falling asleep and staying asleep have become more difficult, even though I am technically post-menopausal. I've tried dozens of products from nutritional stores (all natural sleep formulations) as well as drug store over-the-counter products. By far, Alteril has provided the best results for me. Melatonin by itself doesn't do it for me, so apparently it's the formulary combinations included in this product that do trick. If I'm really stressed out, I sometimes combine a half dose over the counter product with the nightly 2-tabs for Alteril -- lasts all night. All my blood work shows no negative impacts after 6 months of usage.
