Product Reviews of Airborne Effervescent Health Formula, Original Orange, 10 Tablets (Pack of 3)Product Review: It works as a good prevention! Summary: 5 Stars
Airborne has become a household name. The efficacy of this product is contingent on the type of the cold and the timing in which it is ingested. Don't take it more than 4 times a day, especially for children (half of a tablet). Airborne has become another tool to fight the common cold. Homeopathic remedies are still much safer than the OTC and prescription drugs.
Product Review: It works! Summary: 5 Stars
I don't know how it works but we've been using this product for three years now and at the first sniffle or sneeze we down a tablet or two and it never manifests itself into a full-blown cold. Thats how we've been using it although it is primarily to be used as a preventive when in close quarters for extended periods with others such as on planes, trains, in theaters, at conventions, etc. We're entering our fourth cold season without a cold and I wouldn't be without it anymore. It's an essential part of our medicine cabinet.
Product Review: Kept me from getting the yuck going around at work Summary: 5 Stars
I was introduced to this by one our library pages. I work at a public library and the staff was getting severe colds that were putting them out of work for a week or more. As it made it's progression through the department, I took the generic form of this which is just as good and less then half the cost. So far I'm one of three people (the other two being the cataloger in the basement and the library page) on staff who hasn't come down with any sort of sickness. Now I don't think this is going to help you at all if you have the beginning symptoms. I think it's optimal when everyone else has the yucks and you don't. If you have symptoms I suggest Coldeaze.
Product Review: Know Your Ingredients Summary: 3 Stars
I am urging people to do some bit of research (as I am seeing others encourage, too) before popping "herbs and vitamins" to fight a cold virus. This product is becoming very popular simply by recommendation without any proof of efficacy.
Without FDA approval, one must be trusting and willing to risk any possible side effects. As others on this site have mentioned, there are certain ingredients in this product that may not agree with all individuals. Furthermore, certain vitamins (as with medications) take some time to reach an effective blood level. As a water-soluble vitamin, vitamin C needs to be taken well in advance of a cold to be an effective combatant to the virus (the theory is that vitamin C serves as a "cementing" substance for the cellular barrier, thereby resisting the RNA replication process performed by the virus within the cell that allows the virus to spread within the body). As an added warning, repeated excessive levels of vitamin C result in diarrhea for some individuals.
We are a trusting society, often willing to try highly marketed products with no foundation for success but with expectations for results. Perhaps the placebo factor is at play with trust involved or perhaps this product has some efficacy.
Either way, in order to be wise in their pursuit of the magic bullet for the common cold, my suggestion is that people do some research before simply popping vitamins and herbs.
