Much better than those thin cheapo mylar "survival blankets". The Heatshield version is larger (much larger in the 2 person verson) tougher, and has a day-glo orange side, which is easier for rescuers to spot.
I slightly prefer the "bivvie" version, but that's an individual choice. Very lightwieght and compact, belongs in every daypack and survival kit.
Now, it's not for everyday use. Although the Heatshield version can stand up to more than one use, it's hard to repack and it isn't tough enough for repeated usages.
For that, what you want is one of the "space blankets" or "all weather" with a laminate of fiber scrim and aluminized plastic. Those can be reused over and over, and make an excellent groundcloth or emergency tarp. However, those are more expensive and quite a bit larger and heavier.
