Product Reviews of Accu-Measure Fitness 3000 Personal Body Fat Tester

Product Review: Complicated
Summary: 4 Stars

The instructions say where to pinch skin for measurement but I do not think they are entirely accurate. I have more to pinch in other areas so I do not see how it can be done properly. I think a professional is the best way to go.

Product Review: Did not provide accurate readings
Summary: 2 Stars

This device works by measuring a skinfold with a small tab that "clicks" into place at the right tension and measurement. I used this 3 times and got consistent readings (that I thought were a bit low, but maybe they were right as I don't have a true recent measurement to compare against). After the third reading, however, the small tab required much less resistance to click to identify the right measurement and starting giving widely varying measurements.

I shipped back and had no problems returning, so I would shop again from this seller as they stood behind the product. I fault myself partly as this is a very inexpensive caliper and you get what you pay for. I would recommend buying a bit heavier duty one for others.

Product Review: Didn't work for me.
Summary: 3 Stars

This body fat tester is designed to evaluate your body fat percentage by measuring just one spot (an inch above your Anterior Superior Iliac Spine, or hip "pointer"), with this thickness then being cross-referenced against the included table to arrive at a percentage reading. Actually, two tables are included: one for men and one for women. The tables seem to be created from a cross-section of average men and women. Most likely, if you gain fat like an average man or woman (stomach first for man, hips/butt first for women is my guess) then this would give you a roughly accurate reading. Unfortunately, neither me nor my wife get fat like normal people (nor do we do much else like normal people, for that matter.) Needless to say, I'm a little overweight, yet it told me I was "lean," and my wife is also a little overweight and it told her she was "borderline obese." I haven't had it checked yet, but my guess is that a professional using a more expensive device and several areas of body fat "pinching" would arrive at a much more accurate reading. Hope this helps.

Product Review: Difficult to use
Summary: 2 Stars

I should have known that cheap plastic calipers wouldn't work very well. My main gripe is that you are supposed to squeeze the calipers together until you hear a click. Maybe my unit is defective, but the click is basically silent, and I almost always continue squeezing beyond where I should have stopped. I have resorted to trying to look at the calipers as I squeeze, although this is a little tricky. Tyring to stand up straight, pinch my skin, squeeze the calipers, and try and watch to know when to stop, all at the same time, is a little awkward and overwhelming. Would not recommend.

Product Review: Does not last
Summary: 1 Stars

I've had this caliper for two years now and it is not usable anymore. Earlier, I was able to hear the "click" sound, but it would indicate very different measures every time I repeated the procedure on the same spot. Now, the plastic is too worn out and there is no click sound anymore. I could never get a consistent measure with this device.
