As the majority of the others have said, you never get the same reading twice, even on very still adults.
To change from celsius to fahrenheit, DO NOT turn the thermometer on. Hold the "trigger" button (the one you push to get the temp) until you see the "- - -c" reading come up on the screen. This takes about 5 seconds.
Push the trigger button once to change to fahrenheit.
Final step, put it in your next garage sale and go buy a more reliable one :)
Description of Accu-Light One-Second Ear Themometer
The light that illuminates the ear canal is a major highlight of the Accu-Light One-Second Ear Thermometer. It helps a parent properly position the probe tip in the ear for a more accurate reading.It provides an accurate reading in only one second. An illuminated halo helps position the probe into the ear canal to help take a more accurate reading. Includes an illuminated LCD screen for easy nighttime reading. The Accu-Light flashes, and the unit beeps when your reading is complete. Audible indicator has mute a button. It also features an automatic shutoff after one minute to help conserve battery. Use the Memory mode so you can view the previous temperature reading. Ten probe covers included. Celsius and Fahrenheit modes. Requires 2 "AAA" batteries (included)
