Good for checking blood sugars. Price is between 19 and 22 dollars for 50 strips.
Good brand whether it is made in Mexico, Canada, UK, India or elsewhere. I am not a diabetic but I use blood sugars to control my weight. Read in a medical article
that it is useful to know if you need to eat much or little as in some people
you do not feel hunger. If I keep my blood sugars between 100 and 130 I do not get
hypoglycemic episodes. When the blood sugar gets too high, a normal response is to
release Insulin to lower the sugar. That also caused a rise in the blood fats. If you do not ingest or eat much fat, you have to burn your own fat in the "fire of the Carbohydrates (starches)", as carbohydrate and fat metabolism are energy
sources. Eventually, you burn your own fat and lose weight. You are also counting your calories. Eat balanced diets. My weight went from 205 to 190 lbs., 180 lbs,
170 lbs, over 2 to 3 years and now stays at 165 lbs. Belly is flat. I am mainly on complex starches and milk products without Bovine Growth Hormone because I do not need a growth hormone to make me grow. In European Dairy Products the Bovine Growth Hormones are banned in the milk. You can get some Milk powders at Amazon.com that are organic and free of the hormones. In my case, if I get any of the Growth Hormone, I get facial acne which stops when I stop that milk product.
By complex starches, I mean grains, potatoes, etc. that have not been processed and contain lots of fiber and are slowly digested in your intestines.
Some starches do very well for me and some just throw my blood sugars up to
145 or 150 at one hour post eating. That also gives me a insulin bolus release and the next thing I know, my sugar is in the 60 to 70 range and I feel terrible. Using the
blood sugar device helps me find the foods I can eat.
By the way, I pay for the strips myself and doubt any insurance company would pay for it for the above reasons. Also, my mother was a diabetic and I do not want to get what she had. Exercise and weight control and avoidance of sugars are written up today as useful in reducing the development of diabetes.
