Product Reviews of Abreva Cold Sore/Fever Blister Treatment, .07-Ounce TubeProduct Review: Closest we have to a cure Summary: 5 StarsI've suffered from cold sores since I was in elementary school. Back then all I could do was run cold water over my lips and ask my mother for the numbing toothache medicine to soothe the pain.
Nowadays I rarely get a cold sore, but they're highly inconvenient when I do, so I finally caved in and tried Abreva as soon as I felt the ever-so familiar itch on my lip. I followed the directions--5-6 times a day application. Even woke up in the middle of the night to apply.
Results? I didn't have a full blown break out this time, and the one blister that did break out was fairly small and unnoticeable. Five days after the first itch the area has scabbed over completely.
I highly recommend this product to anyone suffering from cold sores. The key is to be vigilant. Buy this NOW before you feel the twinge. As soon as you feel it, apply the creme. Be diligent. Apply the creme 5-6 times per day. Let the creme soak in and dry up on your lip. Be hygenic. Wash your hands before and after applying the creme.
This product may not work for everyone, but it worked for me.
(Personally I recommend the pump version because one squirt of the pump gives you a measured, even dose every time)
Product Review: It Really Works!!! Summary: 5 StarsI use this stuff and ice and my sore is gone in 3 days!!! They say to apply it five times a day, but i use it about 20 and the cold sore goes right away.
Product Review: WoW. Summary: 5 StarsOk so if I could do a commercial for this I would (only if I got paid tho) here is the story.
I get cold sores once a year or so. I got one on my bottom lip and didn't do anything, let it ride out..for 7 days . TWO days after that went away I got one directly above it, I was livid. I was so so mad. And my mom uses Abreva so I went and bought it. Keeping in mind my first cold sore started out tiny and gradually showed it's ugly little head. This second one popped up literally overnight and was monstrous from the getgo so I didn't think it would really work.
So I put that stuff on ALL day. And if you have had a CS before you know how you can feel the baseball on the inside of your lip building like a volcano. I felt that the first day but the 2nd day was GONE and my sore (that had 3 tiny ones to make the monster) all combined to one tiny one. That night, my friend gave me some Zilactin (which worked I think) I'm the type that if I dont feel the burn I don't feel like it's working.. Abreva you don't feel anything but Zilaction feels like it numbs the whole area. So I put on that first then Abreva on top of that.
So now it's Friday, this started on Tuesday morning ,and it's so practically gone I can kiss my boyfriend again. The cold sore NEVER bursted out into the "ulcer" stage. It stayed closed the whole time, and now it's healing and scabby. (YUK) But all in all, I KNOW it was the Abreva that did it, and I would definately recommend it. I'm sure it's not going to work for everyone, that's why there are bad reviews, but you have to use it the FIRST day you notice it. And keep putting it on like it's crack for your lip.
(I would also recommend trying Zilactin, but I don't think that alone would do the trick) I hope this helps and good luck my fellow cold sore sufferers!! We'll get through it together, Abreva in hand!
(OH and I read somewhere someone saying it oozes out of the tube, well it only oozes if you squeeze it when the cap is on, so don't do that and it won't rush out when you open it!)
Product Review: NOT worth it! Summary: 2 StarsWent directly to the store at first tingle - found this product and applied as directed. Did not prevent outbreak and I actually had a 2nd cold sore develop above the original one 2 days later!!! I have never had that happen before. It did help my lip feel better with less tingling and irritation, BUT it lasted just as long and did not speed up healing time. Had better results with L-Lysine supplements in the past. I will get a prescription from my doctor next time.
Product Review: Little tube BIG results Summary: 5 StarsOk, I've read a lot of good and bad reviews on this product. As with any product like this you are going to have varied results. I just thought that I'd put my two cents in because I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. I applied this cream just after the magic "tingle" phase. To be honest I wasn't expecting much. I've been disappointed a million times in the past with every other stupid cream that claims to reduce the healing time. I've tried them all believe me. But this one (for me) was nothing short of amazing. My breakout started on Friday and it is now Monday, it started as three separate blisters. Now usually those three (sometimes five) blisters start to converge.....making one nasty swollen blister. However after applying the cream all weekend (its now Monday) all three blisters are now in their healing phase. They stayed separate from each other and there is no swelling at all. It just looks like I have a dry patch on my lip. (Normally I would look like a freak at this stage like I had been punched in the lip would be embarrassed to be in public). So for me.... success, and I would recommend this product to anyone. This is the best over the counter product available. I know that's not saying much considering the crap that's out there but at least there is finally a little hope for sufferers.
Its a little pricey, but I've spent so much money on all those little tubes of Lipactin that just dry up and sit in my bathroom. I found that this little tube was worth every penny.
