It's certainly decorative. The horn part is a bit thicker than I would have expected and while it saves the back of my shoes from being crushed every time I try to put them on, the thickness doesn't make it as easy as I would have liked to get them on. I'm used to the old fashioned silver shoehorns that are about as thin as a dime and have a wide curve. I was paying more to the length than I was to the horn portion. Plus, I'm not sure if you're supposed to only use this when you're sitting down. I'm 6' and if I try to put my shoes on standing up it becomes something of a tap dance.
However, it does work but it takes a bit to get used to.

Excellent product, value and customer service. A long-handle shoe horn is a must-have creature comfort that is, as "they" say, "better than sliced bread." Anyone can enjoy it, but especially an older person or anyone who can't touch their toes as easily as they used to. I first discovered long-handle shoe horns years ago when I found it in my Paris hotel room. I stole it. After many years of service the plastic horn broke so I had two choices: return to Paris or shop on Amazon.com. I took the cheaper route and am delighted. Not only is it functional, but it is made very well, using wood, plastic, rubber and a springy device. It is much better than the one I stole in Paris.
